The TextielMuseum in Tilburg is a national treasure of the Netherlands and one of the world’s outstanding textile museums. It houses the “TextielLab,” a unique lab that offers artists and professional weavers around the world the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art machinery, collaborate with specialists and master weavers, and realize innovative textile projects. The TextielLab recently installed a new 3.5-meter weaving machine equipped with the large-format Stäubli LX Jacquard machine with 14336 hooks and an end-to-end harness. This installation offers vast new possibilities – including the weaving of tapestries larger than 20 m².
The TextielLab is located in an old textile factory built in the 1860s, a national historic monument.
Fitting the weaving machine into this building was a tricky task for the project team, which included Stäubli. The team developed a design that works well in terms of safety and functionality and allows good access for the technicians, designers, weavers, and visitors. The Stäubli LX Jacquard machine is compact and fits perfectly. The concise mechanical design of the machine permits safe and straightforward access in order to make machine adjustments.
When ceiling space is limited, achieving a favorable harness angle is a challenge. Stäubli’s new Noemi electronic system allowed reducing the depth of the harness and spreading the harness cords evenly across the full width of the Jacquard. This new technology permitted us to optimize harness wear. The robust, newly designed aluminum comber board frame optimizes reliability and ensures vibration-free operation.
Stäubli is proud to be part of this impressive project and to contribute to its success. It is a perfect example of Stäubli’s long-term commitment and company’s tenet that “innovation and quality combine aesthetics and ergonomics.”
