PHOTOVOLTAICS SUCCESS STORY

A landmark in Greece’s energy transformation

In the northwest of Greece, one of Europe’s largest solar parks covers 450 ha generating 230 GWh of energy. The photovoltaic plant owner relies on the dependable Original MC4-Evo 2 PV DC connectors of Stäubli to ensure safe energy feed-in.

HELLENiQ Energy, a leading, integrated energy company in Southeast Europe, is ambitiously driving energy transformation. The company’s portfolio spans the energy value chain with activities in six countries and international reach. In the area of renewable energy, the company established one of Europe’s largest photovoltaic parks.

In Kozani, located in Western Macedonia (Greece), around 500,000 bi-facial solar modules cover an area of over 450 hectares with a total installed capacity amounting to 204.3 MW. This solar park will generate 230 GWh of energy, meeting the energy needs of 75.000 households.

Speeding up energy transformation

In a region where earlier times coal was mined, the Kozani solar project of HELLENiQ Energy is a landmark in energy transformation and demonstrates the company’s commitment to accelerating energy transformation. Furthermore, it is also supporting the economic development in this area.

Quality products and partners

For this project, HELLENiQ Energy worked closely with the contracted EPC Juwi Hellas in order to select the best business partners and product suppliers. Great attention was paid to ensuring the performance, the highest quality and compliance of all health and safety aspects during construction and operation. To ensure the yield of the PV system in the long term and to guarantee safe and loss-free power generation, the Original MC4-Evo 2 PV DC connectors from Stäubli were installed.

The PV DC connectors of Stäubli are certified (TUV / UL / JET) to resist harsh environmental situations. Irrespective of moisture due to morning dew, stress by thunderstorms or very high temperatures in summer and lowest temperatures in winter the Original MC4 products are even suitable for installations up to 5000 m.a.s.

Committed to quality

The Head of Operations and Technical Asset Management at HELLENiQ Energy, Sotiris Fragoulis explains:

«The local representative of Stäubli accompanied the project closely to help the local teams ensure that the quality standards were met during the construction. Staubli is a global leader in its field, and we were very happy that their products were included in our project. We will continue implementing projects in accordance with HelleniQ Energy’s vision and strategy, and we plan to maintain the same quality standards as set by the Kozani PV solar project.»
